Lady Diggers Drop Opener

Helena, Mont. – The Lady Diggers opened the 2013 season with a loss today. Tech fell to Midland (Neb.) in three sets 25-9 25-17 25-15.

Montana Tech (0-1) faces Carroll College in an exhibition match at 4 p.m. today which down not count on their regular season record.

Many new faces appeared on the court in the match along with the returning group. The young team increased in numbers and size during the off season adding eight freshmen and two transfers.

Juniors Korey Krumm and Annie Smoot led the way at the net with four kills each. Krumm, who led the conference in hitting percentage last season, hit 0.333 in the match. Smoot, who transferred from Snow College, posted a 0.105 hitting percentage.

Sophomore Sydney Norris and freshman Jordan Danz had three kills each.

Kimmy Kavran, the Frontier's freshman and libero of the year, posted 12 digs and a kill.

KC Heimann led the way for Midland with 11 kills. Mackenzie Sheef chipped in 10 kills.

Montana Tech heads west to Spokane next weekend at the Red Lion Cascade Frontier Challenge.
