Diggers Head to Helena, Great Falls for two Key Matchups

BUTTE, Mont. - The 20th-ranked Orediggers continue thier five-match road swing as they head to Helena and Great Falls this weekend for two key Frontier Conference matchups.

Digger Rewind
Tech is coming off a 25-23, 25-23, 25-23 victory at MSU-Northern last week. Jordan Danz a match-high 13 kills along with eight assists for the Orediggers. Freshman Karina Mickelson had a hit percentage of .421 for a season-best 11 kills. Setter Makenzie Bauck contributed with her first double-double of the year with 38 assists and 15 digs.

Scouting the Fighting Saints
Carroll currently sits atop of the Frontier Conference standings at a perfect 4-0 record. The Saints had a slow start to the 2015 with a 3-7 record. However, Carroll is in the midst of a seven game match win streak including recent victories over L-C State (3-1) and MSU-Northern (3-0). Senior Crystal Schmidt leads the Saints hitting .347 on the year for a team-high 160 kills.

 

Last Time vs. Carroll
Carroll swept the season series against Tech last season. The Saints won 3-1 in Helena and swept the Orediggers in Butte. Korey Krumm averaged 13.5 kills for Tech while Makenzie Bauck totaled 69 assists.

Scouting the Argos
UGF started the 2015 season red hot with a 14-3 record including a streak of six straight matches. Since then the Argos are just 1-4 and 1-3 in the Frontier. UGF spilt last weekend beating Montana Western 3-0 before falling to Lewis-Clark State 1-3. The Argos also dropped the 3-0 decision at Rocky on Thursday. Madison Wilhelm is leading the way for UGF with a team-best 223 kills.

Last Time vs. UGF
Tech swept Great Falls in a quarterfinals matchup at the Frontier Conference Tournament. Sydney Norris had a match-high 13 kills while Bailie Cortner added three blocks.

Tech in the Polls
The Diggers moved up to No. 20 in the latest installment of the Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 Poll.

Bauck POTW
For the second time this season Montana Tech had a player named player of the week. Junior Makenzie Bauck took home Setter of the Week honors following a 38-assist, 15-dig performance in a 3-0 win over MSU-Northern.
