Box Score GREAT FALLS— No. 25 Montana Tech fell to No. 18 Carroll College in four sets in the Frontier Conference Volleyball Championship Saturday night.
The Diggers (22-9) triumphed in the first set of the night, 25-19, over the Saints before dropping the next three sets, 19-25, 21-25, and 23-25.
"We played really hard tonight, Carroll just played a little bit better. I think the first couple sets showed some fatigue in both teams but I was very proud of our effort." Said Head Coach
Brian Solomon.
Montana Tech hit .138 for the match that saw
Gena McMillan register 17 kills and hit .282 for the night. Seniors
Jordan Danz and
Bailie Cortner had 14 and 13 kills respectively. Danz had 15 digs on the night as well.
Makenzie Bauck led the match with 45 assists and added 14 digs defensively. Montana Tech blocked 18 Carroll attacks led by Cortner who registered a match-high seven blocks.
"Our seniors played really well and we gave everything we had." Added Solomon. "Bailie was a senior playing her best tonight for us."
Carroll College hit .189 in the contest and was led by Paige Montgomery who tallied 22 kills on 40 attacks.
The loss ends a six-match win streak for Montana Tech who entered the Frontier Tournament as the 2-seed.
"We have a really solid opportunity for an at-large bid but it depends on what happens across the country. We had a really good season and so did Carroll. We've got a lot of ranked wins on our resume so hopefully that's enough." Said Solomon.
