Box Score BUTTE, Mont. – A fiery Montana Tech opened the Big Sky Volleyball Challenge with a sweep of No. 9 Vanguard University (Calif.) 25-15, 25-17, 25-15.

Vanguard (1-5) is the highest ranked team in the Tachikara-NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll. The Orediggers (4-1) picked up their third victory against a ranked opponent in just their second weekend of the season.

The Orediggers were explosive at the net outhitting the Lions 45-20 and posted a .276 team hitting percentage. In the first and third sets, Tech outhit Vanguard 30-10.

Junior Nicole Peacock led the way with 11 kills hitting .280 in the match. She also had nine digs.

Katie Wiley and Gena McMillan had nine kills each.

Mackenzie Bauck had 34 assists in the match and 10 digs.

The Orediggers play tonight at 7 p.m. against Dickinson State (N.D.).
