DES MOINES, Iowa—The No. 15 ranked Montana Tech Oredigger volleyball team defeated both William Woods (Mo.) and Trinity Christian (Ill.) in straight sets on the first day of the Grand View Tournament.
In the first match against William Woods, the Diggers were powered by
Gena McMillan who registered 20 kills and
Masha Korol and
Angela Molesworth who had 12 kills.
The Diggers won the straight sets match 28-26, 26-24, and 25-19.
Montana Tech hit .273 for the match and
Tori Chelini had a match-high 43 assists and five service aces.
In the second match of the day, Montana Tech defeated Trinity Christian in three sets: 25-23, 26-24, and 25-22.
Montana Tech's
Angela Molesworth had a match-high 12 kills and hit for a .417 clip. Molesworth and
Haley Druyvestein each recorded four blocks in the contest.
Kamaile Moody and
Tori Chelini divided up 36 total assists and
Sabrina Hopcroft led the way defensively with 10 digs.
The victory was the eighth straight for Montana Tech who improves to 15-5.
Montana Tech takes on host No. 11 Grand View tomorrow morning at 10 AM and Peru State College (Neb.) tomorrow afternoon at 2PM to finish the tournament.
