Box Score HELENA, Mont. – The Montana Tech volleyball team won their first Frontier Conference Tournament downing Rocky Mountain College in five sets. The Orediggers receive the automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa.
After the Orediggers took the initial frame, Rocky won the next two sets. Tech rallied in the fourth to push the match into the fifth. The final set scores were 25-18, 18-25, 26-28, 25-23, 15-11.
Both squads finished with 68 kills but the Orediggers edged the Bears with a slightly higher hitting percentage .153 to .145. Tech held the net down with 27 blocks to 18 from Rocky.
Strong defense from both teams produced 345 digs in the match. Tech had 172 as
Sabrina Hopcroft set a school record with 53.
Gena McMillan had a career high 31.
Senior middle
Haley Druyvestein led the Diggers with 15 kills and just two errors for a .325 hitting percentage.
Masha Korol had 13 kills on 56 swings finishing with a .125 hitting percentage.
Nicole Peacock and
Angela Molesworth had 12 kills each. Molesworth had just one error hitting .229 in the match.
McMillan and
Heather Thompson had seven kills each.
Hailey Copinga led Rocky with 20 kills hitting .283. Danielle Russell had 14.
Post season rankings are released Monday.
