Box Score HELENA— The No. 17 Montana Tech Orediggers defeated rival Carroll College in five sets on the road Thursday night to open up Frontier Conference play.
The five-set match saw the Diggers drop the first set 17-25, before rallying to take the second and third sets 25-14 and 25-21. The Saints won the fourth set 20-25 to force a fifth set to 15.
After Montana Tech led 10-7 in the final set the Saints rallied back to tie it up at 10-all forcing Coach
Brian Solomon to call a timeout.
After the timeout, the Diggers went ahead 12-10 thanks to kills by
Angela Molesworth and
Gena McMillan. The Saints again tied it up before committing a service error to put Tech up 13-12.
A quick two points by Montana Tech secured the victory for the Diggers over their rival Saints.
The win stops a slide by the Diggers who had lost three of their last four matches. Montana Tech improves to 8-5 overall and 1-0 in Frontier Conference action.
Montana Tech has their Frontier Conference home opener on Kelvin Sampson Court this Saturday when they take on L-C State at 2PM MST.
