Box Score GREAT FALLS, Mont. – No. 18 Montana Tech defeated the No. 16 University of Providence in the Frontier Conference opening match in four sets, 26-24, 25-18, 17-25, 26-24.
The match is the fifth straight for the Orediggers defeating last year's Frontier Conference Tournament champion. The Argos (10-2, 0-1) pick up just their second loss of the season.
The Orediggers edged the Argos in kills 50-48 while hitting .160 as a team. The Argos hit .173 in the match.
Both teams matched well at the net with Tech finishing with 8 block assists and UP with 1 solo and 8 block assists.
Freshman
Maureen Jessop continues to impress with a team high 15 kills and just 3 errors. Jessop finished the match with a .308 hitting percentage.
Gena McMillan had 12 kills and
Karina Mickelson added 10.
Setter
McKenna Kaelber had 40 assists.
Sabrina Hopcroft and Mickelson had 20 digs each.
Kelsey Shaver led the Argos with 18 kills hitting a match-high .349.
The Orediggers (12-2, 1-0) open the home conference season Saturday when they host Montana State Northern at 7 p.m. on Kelvin Sampson Court.
