Box Score DILLON, Mont.- In the final week of Frontier Conference regular season play, the Orediggers put together a huge win on the road. Montana Tech (20-4, 6-2) swept the Bulldogs of Montana Western (18-5, 5-4) 3-0 on Wednesday evening.
Coming into the match the two teams had split their two meetings on the year. The Orediggers won the first meeting during the Frontier Conference preseason tournament (3-2), and the Bulldogs took home the win in the second meeting, 3-0 in Butte.
Montana Tech was dominant in the first set, winning 25-10. The Orediggers put together two large runs, an 11-2 run early, and then a 9-2 to end the first.
Olivia Muir tallied four kills in that first set,
Maureen Jessop hammered home three.
The second set started like the first with the Orediggers jumping out to a quick 8-4 lead. In this set, the Bulldogs responded, going on a quick 3-point rally. The teams exchanged points back and forth until late in the set when the Bulldogs led 19-16. Montana Tech would score the next 7 points, going up 23-19. From there the Orediggers were able to take home the second set 25-22. Senior
Taylor Henley finished the second with four kills, and
Alexis Umland marked a pair of kills.
Maureen Jessop took over in the third set, finishing with seven kills in the third alone.
Olivia Muir had four kills as well in the hard-fought third set. The third had several momentum changes, with both teams making 3-4 point runs from start to finish. A finish it seemed was going to go the Bulldogs. Western led 25-24, needing just one more point to send it to the fourth set. The Diggs weren't done yet, as
Maureen Jessop hit her 12
th and final kill of the night to tie it up at 25 all. The next two points would go to Tech on back-to-back attacker errors, giving Montana Tech their 20
th win on the season.
Montana Tech finished with 34 kills as a team, hitting .228 on the night. Montana Western hit .079, to finish with 33 kills.
Individually the Diggs were led by Jessop with 12 kills on the night, hitting .182.
Olivia Muir also got into double digits with 10 kills and a .261 hitting percentage.
Taylor Henley hit .500 spiking 6 kills on 10 swings.
Setter
Rhys Layton is credited with 16 assists, and
Jelena Jablanov led the Orediggers with 12 digs.
Montana Tech will be back at home on Friday night to host Carroll College, and it will be senior night. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start in the HPER complex.
