No. 19 volleyball wins fifth straight

Montana Tech Athletics

BUTTE, Mont. -- Olivia LaBeau tallied 21 kills and seven blocks, Jelena Jablanov had 17 digs, and the 19th-ranked Montana Tech volleyball team rolled to a 25-23, 18-25, 25-11, 25-19 win over visiting Rocky Mountain Saturday.

It was the Orediggers' fifth-straight victory and kept Montana Tech (18-8, 10-3 Frontier Conference) tied for first in the Frontier Conference standings.

Montana Tech jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the first and extended the advantage to 15-9 before Rocky called timeout. The Battlin' Bears rallied to cut the score to 22-21 and force a Tech timeout and tied the score a point later. But the Diggers rallied late thanks to kills by Piper Jette and LaBeau to take the set.

After Rocky won the second, the Orediggers took over. Kinnidi Willmore spiked five of her 18 kills in the third to lead Tech to the blowout win. In the fourth, LaBeau put down a whopping nine kills — including the final two of the match — to seal the deal for Montana Tech.

Rhys Layton made 50 assists for the Diggers, and Brooklynn Hayes and Emmy Green had 11 digs apiece.

Montana Tech will have a two-match roadtrip to end the regular season, starting with Thursday's 7 p.m. match at No. 15 Montana Western.
