BROOKINGS, SD.- Day one of the 2023-24 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships are in the books, and the Orediggers have an All-American.
Junior
Abby Clark placed fourth in the Pentathlon to earn another All-American honor at the Indoor Championships.
According to the AthleticLive stats, Abby tallied a career-high 3595 points to finish 4th in the field of 16. That number crushing her previous best this season of 3329, and her PR of 3390.
The Indoor Pentathlon consists of 60m hurdles, 800m run, High Jump, Long Jump, and Shot Put. The competitors get 30 minutes between each event.
Abby excelled in the jumps. She won the Long Jump with a mark of 5.44m (17-10.25), and she also jumped to second in the high jump clearing 1.68m (5-06.00). She was 4
th in the 800m, with a time of 2:28.56, 8
th in the shotput at 10.61m, and 12
th in the 60m hurdles.
The top eight in each event receive All-American honors.
With the strong start by Abby, the Orediggers are in 4
th place overall with 5 points.
Also on Thursday,
Carlin Manning ran in the 5000m prelims and crossed at 18:36.15.
The Women Distance Medley team of
Kamryn Comba,
Peyton Walker, McKenzie Sheils, and
Carlin Manning, ran a prelim time of 12:55.55.
Day two of the event continues all day Friday and will wrap up on Saturday.
