Threshers of Bethel Top the Orediggers in Five.

Montana Tech fall 3-2 to Bethel (KS)

WAXAHATCHIE, TX. – The Orediggers of Montana Tech have wrapped up at the Texas Two-Step Volleyball Tournament with a 3-2 loss to Bethel (KS).

The first set went to the Threshers, 25-22. The teams exchanged points, with no significant runs, up to a 20-all tie. Bethel would go on to score five of the next seven points to seal the first set. The Threshers hit .324, compared to the Orediggers .167 in the first.

The second set was a much different look, as Montana Tech would jump out to a quick 13-6 lead. They would push that lead out to nine points with strong play by Olivia LaBeau, and Piper Jette. Tech would finish 11 kills in the second while hitting .188.
The third and fourth sets were both right down to the wire. The third set going to the Threshers, 25-23, while the Diggs took the fourth, 26-24.

Neither team could get the offense running in the third. The Orediggers hitting -.043, and the Threshers .029. Tech tallied 10 kills, Bethel had eight, but high numbers of attack errors offset both, the Diggs with 12 and seven for the Threshers.

The Oredigger offense got rolling in the fourth, scoring 15 kills on 42 attempts. The attack errors dropped significantly as well (4). Kinnidi Willmore marked five kills in the fourth, followed by Alexis Umland with three.

The fifth set was taken by the Threshers 15-11. The tale of the tape, once again being attack errors. The Orediggers hit five kills in the fifth but also had five attack errors. The Threshers put up six kills, matched by 6 errors.

The Orediggers (6-4) were paced by Olivia LaBeau with 14 kills in the match, while hitting .407. Kinnidi Willmore was in double digits with 11 kills, and Alexis Umland finished with nine kills in the match.

Jelena Jablanov led the Diggs with 22 digs, while Rhys Layton put up 40 assists, and put down four kills.

Cameron Offerle led the Threshers (8-3) with 24 kills in the match, on 60 swings. She also had 16 digs in the win.

Montana Tech will take next weekend off. Their next match will be a home conference matchup with the Battlin Bears of Rocky Mountain College, on September 13th in the HPER with a 7 PM start time.
