SPOKANE, Wash. -- Jadyn Vermillion's first jump was the best.
The senior leapt 5.68 meters in her opening try of the day to win the long jump for Montana Tech's indoor track & field teams Saturday at the Spokane Indoor Challenge to highlight the Orediggers' second meet of the weekend.
Vermillion's mark broke her own school record set earlier this indoor season at the Bobcat PReview in Bozeman.
It was the only program record to fall on the day, but it was not Montana Tech's only impressive performance.
Zach Merrifield ran the 60m dash in 7.02 seconds, the second-fastest time in the program's history, to finish 19th in the event.
Adam Schrader also put up a second-best mark in Tech lore, running the 60m hurdles in 8.50 seconds in the preliminary heats. Matt Moreni finished 21st in the 200m run at 22.84, the third-fastest time in Montana Tech history, and Jackson Perry cleared 1.95m in the high jump, also a third-best mark in the Oredigger record books.
Montana Tech's track & field program will return to competition January 24-25 at the Lauren McCluskey Invitational at University of Idaho.
