POCATELLO, Idaho -- Montana Tech track & field freshman
Ayla Janzen broke a pair of school records Friday, highlighting another tremendous indoor meet for the Orediggers at Idaho State's Stacy Daglia Open.
Janzen topped the Montana Tech women's records in both the 60-meter hurdles and the triple jump. The Twin Bridges product ran an 8.82-second hurdles sprint in the preliminary heats to shatter the previous Tech record and record an NAIA 'B' standard (She followed with an 8.87 in finals to finish fifth.), and she narrowly edged her own top mark in the triple, covering 11.33m to place second in that event. She was also seventh in the 60m dash in a collegiate-best 7.87, moving up to fourth on the Digger leaderboard.
Hers were two of four Montana Tech records that fell Friday.
Jadyn Vermillion reclaimed the Oredigger record in the women's long jump at 5.80m, and
Matthew Moreni broke the men's 200m ceiling in 22.31.
Vermillion, who broke the program's long jump record January 18 only to see teammate
Abby Clark take it back January 24, also won the event. She improved her own hold on the second-fastest 60m dash time in Tech history, too, racing in 7.81 seconds. The Oregon native raced just one-hundredth of a second slower in finals to take fifth.
Moreni's 200m dash was a huge collegiate-best for the freshman from Helena, dropping nearly half a second from his time earlier this season. He finished second in the race.
Nicolo Lancini also logged a podium finish for the Oredigger men, covering 13.98m in the triple jump.
Montana Tech track & field will take its team back on the road next weekend with a visit to Spokane, Wash.'s The Podium for the Whitworth Invitational.
