Box Score BUTTE -- Talan Dodson had nine kills, Brooklynn Hayes and Rhys Layton each served up three aces, and the Montana Tech volleyball team raced to a 25-8, 25-12, 25-18 sweep of Mayville State Saturday evening inside Valley Bank Arena.
Halle Moomaw and Payton Treadwell each chipped in eight kills for the Orediggers (16-4, 11-3 Frontier Conference).
Montana Tech raced out to an early lead, snagging a 9-1 advantage in the opening set before Mayville State (1-17, 1-12) stopped the bleeding. The Orediggers finished the set on a 6-0 run powered by Kenedee Moore's strong service.
In the second, the Orediggers again rushed out the gate. Tech took a 15-5 lead before the Comets were able to find their footing. Tech won the set easily thanks in large part to four Moomaw kills.
The third started out as a tight affair. Montana Tech fell behind 5-1 before righting the ship, and the Orediggers charged back to tie the set at 7. A 10-2 run in the middle going helped establish Tech's dominance, and the Orediggers polished off the sweep with the final three points, two of which were Layton aces.
Layton added a team-high 24 assists to go with her three aces and two kills. Austin Long led the back row with eight digs.
Montana Tech hit .293 for the match.
The Orediggers will hit the road next weekend for matches at Dickinson State and Bismarck State Friday and Saturday, respectively.
