DICKINSON, N.D. -- Rhys Layton and
Payton Treadwell both recorded double-doubles,
Talan Dodson spiked a match-best 13 kills, and the Montana Tech volleyball team swept Dickinson State, 25-23, 25-20, 25-21, on the road Friday evening.
Layton totaled 38 assists and 12 digs for her seventh double-double of the season, while Treadwell earned her third of the year behind 12 kills and 15 digs.
The Orediggers (17-4, 12-3 Frontier Conference) fell behind 14-10 in the opening set before rattling off a 6-0 run on the strong service of
Brooklynn Hayes to snag the lead.
Dickinson State (6-16, 5-10) responded with an 8-2 run of its own to lead 22-18, but Tech had the final say. A
Kennedy Oman kill, her third of the set, jump-started a 7-1 Oredigger run that cemented the early advantage. Treadwell notched six of her 12 kills in the opener.
In the second,
Halle Moomaw led the way with five of her nine kills in the match, including the final two that clinched the 2-0 Oredigger lead.
DSU began the third with a 6-1 run and held the lead until an Oman kill finally brought the Orediggers back even at 16-16.
Tech yielded the lead briefly, but Layton, the senior setter, took over down the stretch. She dumped a kill to kick off an 8-3 run that ended the match as strong service got the Blue Hawks out of system. Layton added another kill, two assists, and two blocks in the game-winning barrage.
The win kept the Orediggers at second place in the Frontier Conference standings, holding a 12-3 record. Montana Tech will look to improve on that mark Saturday at Bismarck State. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. Central time, 2 Mountain.
