BUTTE -- Montana Tech's volleyball team wrapped up its regular-season home schedule Saturday with a five-set loss to Carroll, 21-25, 17-25, 25-21, 26-24, 15-12.
Halle Moomaw led the way for the Oredigger offense, hitting .519 with 12 kills, while
Talan Dodson and
Payton Treadwell each spiked 14 kills.
Setter
Rhys Layton earned a double-double with 49 assists and 14 digs, and
Brooklynn Hayes and
Kenedee Moore dug out 19 Carroll attacks apiece.
Montana Tech (20-6, 15-5 Frontier Conference) looked to be in control in the early going. Dodson and Treadwell combined for 11 kills in the first-set victory, and the Orediggers closed the second on a 7-2 run.
In the third, however, the tide turned. Carroll (17-10, 12-8) used a 4-0 run to force a Tech timeout at 19-16 in the Fighting Saints' favor. The Saints then finished the set with five of the final seven points.
Carroll again proved a tough out in the fourth. Trailing 18-16, the Saints took the lead with another 5-2 run and broke the 24-all tie with two straight points to force a winner-take-all fifth set.
The Fighting Saints closed out the match in the decider, stopping Tech's last-ditch run with a Lauren Hay kill that sealed it.
Lauren Heuiser led the way for Carroll with 18 kills.
Montana Tech will close out the regular season next weekend with a roadtrip to MSU-Northern and Providence.
