Montana Tech Athletics

BUTTE -- Halle Moomaw had 11 kills, Madison Biery added 10, and the Montana Tech volleyball team continued to roll through its Frontier Conference schedule Saturday afternoon with a 25-16, 25-14, 25-21 sweep of Dickinson State inside Valley Bank Arena.

The Orediggers (10-1, 5-0 Frontier) were hot on the attack all afternoon, hitting .324 as a team in the victory. Biery led the way in terms of efficiency again for Tech, converting 10 of 13 attack attempts without an error to hit .769 for the match. Through 11 matches this season, Biery leads the NAIA at a .485 hitting clip.

She wasn't the only Montana Tech hitter with the hot hand Saturday. Kennedy Oman hit .444 with nine kills in the match, and Moomaw swung at a .391 clip with her team-best 12 kills.

Setter Rhys Layton tallied 42 assists, while Brooklynn Hayes (12) and Morgan Jones (10) both reached double-digit digs.

The first set began as a back-and-forth affair in a 13-13 as Kenedee Moore toed the service line. The redshirt freshman ripped off an 8-0 run with her strong service to give the Orediggers control of the opener.

The Orediggers didn't waste any time in the second, rolling out a 9-2 run to start the set. Tech cruised to victory and headed to the third looking for the sweep.

The clincher was Montana Tech's best offensive set of the afternoon. The Orediggers combined to hit .405 in the third, powered by 11 combined kills by Moomaw and Biery.

Montana Tech, which received votes in the latest NAIA coaches' top 25 poll, will hit the road next week to put its 10-match win streak on the line. The Orediggers head to Nebraska for a Thursday matchup at 19th-ranked Bellevue before making the trip to Dakota State Saturday.
