Diggers Open Season with Exhibition Win

Box Score Butte – The Orediggers opened the 2011-12 season with an Exhibition game against Grande Prairie Regional College in a game that felt more like a Midnight Madness event. Tyree Haynie, 5'9” senior guard, took a full court pass at the beginning of the first quarter and slammed it home giving the Orediggers a 7-0 lead. Tech went on for the win against the Wolves with a final score of 96-39.

There was solid play all around for the Orediggers. Haynie was the standout with 18 points going 7 for 10 on field goals. Adding five rebounds and four assists, Haynie started the season off with a bang.

Hometown senior Cole Conway also turned in a solid performance adding eleven points and going two for two from beyond the three point line.

Head Coach Aaron Woliczko's new players had strong outings and hopefully a preview of the new talent for the upcoming year. New edition Brian Cummings had twelve points on the night and looks to fit in well with the Orediggers this season. Brandon Rydberg, a 6'3” freshman from Bozeman, showed strong athleticism under the basket. Pulling down ten boards and adding eleven points, he had a strong performance for his first game with Tech.

The Orediggers will host Grande Prairie Regional College again Saturday night at 7 PM at Kelvin Sampson Court at the HPER Complex.
