Box Score Spokane, WA – Montana Tech took down #6 ranked Division III Whitworth Saturday night 83-73 and ended their 41-game home winning streak. This was Whitworth first loss of the season.
Montana Tech moves to (5-3) on the season.
The Diggers jumped out to a quick lead on a 10-0 run to start the game. Whitworth slowly worked their way back during the half and went ahead 40-38 with 1:03 to go on three pointer from Idris Lasisi. After two free throws from
AJ Paine, the Diggers tied the game. Whitworth added two more free throws before an
AJ Paine jumper tied the score at 42 with 5 seconds on the clock. After calling a timeout on the inbound, Whitworth's Wade Gebbers hit a three to give Whitworth the lead going into halftime 45-42.
Both teams were shooting well in the first half. The Diggers shot 58-percent from the field and 71-percent from beyond the arc. Whitworth put up 52-percent from the field and 52-percent from three point range. Tech dominated in the paint 10-5 in the first half.
Tech stayed with Whitworth for the beginning of the second half. With 11:28 to go, Tech went on a 15-3 run and had the lead at 74-67 with 4:36 to go. Whitworth would get it back to with in 4 points with 1:26 to go, but that would be as close as they get to the win as Tech downs Whitworth 83-73.
Montana Tech had five players hit double digits. Freshman
Adam Greger led the way for the Diggers with 23 points and three rebounds. Greger was 8 for 11 from the field and 2 for 2 from three point range.
Junior guard
Brian Cummings had 16 points and four rebounds on the night.
Cole Conway netted 14 points and four rebounds.
Montana Tech plays at home next. The Diggers take on Walla Walla on December 20
th at Kelvin Sampson Court at 7 pm.
