Missoula, MT – Montana Tech gave the University of Montana a challenge Wednesday night at Dahlberg Arena. The Orediggers led for a large portion of the game before falling to the Griz 64-49.
Tech led the entire first half and finished the first frame up 22-20. The team shot 45.5-percent from the field while holding the Grizzlies to 29.6-percent in field goals.
The Grizzlies finally showed their higher level in the second half and muscled their way to a victory. The Griz took the lead for good with 11:35 to go in the game on a Jordan Wood layup.
Brian Cummings led Tech in scoring in his first start of the year at guard. The redshirt junior transfer from Brooklyn, NY had 17 point on the night going 8 for 13 from the floor. Cummings added 5 rebounds and an assist to his night's totals.
Senior guard
Tyree Haynie was 5 for 6 on field goals and 2 for 3 from beyond the arc for 13 points on the night. Haynie added three rebounds and an assist.
Trent Thompson led Tech in rebounds with eight.
Montana Tech is on the road for their next contest. The Orediggers travel to Spokane this weekend when they take on Whitworth University Saturday night.
