Tech Comes Up Short Against Bulldogs

Box Score Butte-In front of a full house at Kelvin Sampson Court, Tech came up just short of the Bulldogs losing 65-61.

The Orediggers were within two with 30 seconds left in the game before fouling Western's Kyle Erickson and sending him to the line. He made both free throws putting the game just out of reach for the Orediggers.

It was a back and forth contest for the first eight minutes of the first half. Western went on an 11-2 run and led 22-13 with 8:22 left to play in the first half. The Bulldogs lead would grow to 18 before finishing the half up 39-26.

Western shot 57.1% from the field in the first half and hit 5 of 10 from beyond the arc. Guard Brandon Brown led the Bulldogs with 17 points in the first half.

Tech did not shoot well in the first half hitting 28.6% from the field and 23.1% from three point range.

Western would hold a steady lead for most of the second half. With 3:31 to go, Tech made a dash for the lead on an 8-0 run to pull with in two with 30 seconds on clock. Tech was down 63-61. They fell just short at the end of the game and lose by the final score 65-61.

Tech shot 50% in the second half but only 25% from beyond the arc. The finished the game shooting 39.3% from the field.

Western shot 37% from the filed in the second half and only hit 1 of 9 from beyond the arc.

Brandon Brown, the conference's leading scorer, finished with 21 point, four assists and two steals. Tech held Brown to just four points in the second half.

Senior Tyree Haynie led the Orediggers with 19 points. Haynie had three assists and four steals. He shot 50% from the field.

Adam Greger had 13 points, six boards and a block. The freshman guard shot 50% from the field.

Dan Simon netted 11 on the night adding five rebounds and an assist to his totals.

Montana Tech is home again next weekend when they host Rocky Mountain College on Friday and Carroll College on Saturday.
