Orediggers Outrun #10 Westminster

Box Score Butte-Montana Tech put on a three-point show in the second half and out ran #10 Westminster at the conference opener at Kelvin Sampson Court.  The Orediggers defeated the Griffins 78-67.

Freshman Adam Greger put the first two points on the board for the Orediggers off of a Jake Orchard turnover. Orchard came back with two for Westminster and the Griffins went on to lead most of the first half. The Griffins were up by 12 at one point in the half, but Tech was able to work back to a lead on a 15-2 run. Tech was up 29-25 from a Brian Cummings three-pointer before the teams started trading shots towards the end of the half. Orchard made the final two points of the half and went into half time with a one point deficit at 31-30.

Orchard would finish the half with 11 points for Westminster. Greger would finish the first half with 10 points for Tech and senior AJ Paine would finish with eight.

The second half was a back and forth match as the Orediggers and Griffins traded baskets at the beginning of the half. Westminster would go on an 11-1 run to put them up 56-47 with 7:55 to go in the game. And then the threes started to rain. Tech downed four three pointers in a row from three different players starting with junior Brian Cummings. Westminster would get within two on an Adam Rainbird three-pointer with 2:20 to go, but another set of three pointers from Tech starting with AJ Paine and then Cummings would secure the lead for good.  Tech would shoot 9 of 12 from beyond the arc in the second half.

Greger, Cummings and Paine led the Orediggers in scoring with 19 points apiece. Greger added five rebounds and two assists while shooting 7 for 11 from the field and 1 for 2 on three-pointers. Paine added four assists and two rebounds while shooting 5 of 8 from beyond the arc. Cummings was 4 for 4 from three-point range and three of the three-pointers came in the second half.

Junior Dan Simon had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Jake Orchard led the Griffins in scoring with 18 and shot 8 of 15 from the field.

The Orediggers are back in action tomorrow night at Kelvin Sampson Court when they take on the Lewis-Clark State Warriors at 7:30 PM.
