Southern Overpowers Tech

Ashland, Ore. – Southern Oregon needed a victory to get into the NAIA Playoffs and that is how they opened Saturday's game. The Raiders overpowered the Orediggers 46-28.

No. 7 the Orediggers (8-2) couldn't find any momentum until the fourth quarter losing their first game in nine tries.

No. 12 the Raiders (8-2) will have to wait until Sunday afternoon to find out for sure, but they likely gained a spot in the NAIA Championship Series winning their sixth game in a row.

The Tech defense held the Southern offense out of the end zone on the first two drives, but then the top ranked offense broke through the flood gates. The Raiders jumped out to a 27-0 lead in the first half.

Tech's offensive line had a hard time keeping Southern Oregon out of the backfield as they gave up six sacks in the game.

There were five touchdowns scored by Southern Oregon before Tech got on the board. Most of the scores came on quick strikes by the Raiders.

Quarterback Nick Baker struggled under the pressure only completing 29 of his 55 attempts. He threw three touchdowns and one interception in the end zone.

Pat Hansen had another solid effort running for 162 yards and a touchdown.

Trent Thomas caught 10 passes for 102 yards and a score.

Mike Touzinsky led all defenders with 6.5 tackles.

Keke Frank had the lone interception on the day returning it 51 yards.

National passing leader Austin Dodge threw for 486 yards and five touchdowns in the game.
