Montana Tech (2-1) is coming off their second win of the season and first road win under second year Head Coach
Chuck Morrell. Last weekends' win is the first winning streak for the football team under Coach Morrell having won their last two games. The last winning streak was three games in September 2010.
The Orediggers have not won in Billings since September 26, 2009.
Tech currently ranks sixth in NAIA Division I in passing offense per game (293.7 yards) and ninth in total passing offense (881 yards). The defense is ranked 15th in total sacks (9.0).
One week after his Frontier Player of the Week nod, junior quarterback
Nick Baker leads the offense against the second highest rated defense in the conference. Baker is averaging 291 yards a game on a 71% completion percentage. He is ranked fifth in Division I in passing yards per game and ninth in total offense (873 yards).
Baker is ranked second in the conference in passing and total offense just ahead of Rocky's Bryce Baker. Bryce Baker is coming off his worst performance of the season. Carroll College held Bryce to less than 100 yards through the air and no touchdowns last weekend after a 544 yard performance against Southern Oregon the week before.
Sophomore
Pat Hansen is ranked second in the conference in rushing (96.3 yards). Hansen ranks second in the Frontier in scoring (10 points per game) and ninth in Division I.
The wide receiver core for Tech continues to excel.
Trent Thomas,
Zack Kinney,
Kevin Moss and
James Roberts have all been hot targets so far this season. Thomas is second in the conference and ninth nationally in receptions per game (6.3). Thomas is just behind Kinney in yards per game. They average 90.3 and 84 yards. Last weekend's two touchdown performance for Thomas ties the number of touchdowns he had all last season.
Defensive lineman Jake Workman is coming off another solid performance. The sophomore from Fairfield, MT has 2.5 sacks on the year and is tied for third in the conference in that category.
Senior Nate Kobold is the leading tackler for the Orediggers. Kobold, who played high school football at Billings West, is averaging 10.3 tackles a game. He is ranked third in the conference in that category.
The Orediggers return home next week for Homecoming. Tech hosts Southern Oregon next Saturday at Alumni Coliseum.
