Rocky Comeback Defeats Diggers

Box Score BUTTE, MT- It was the best of times, it was the worst of times for Montana Tech football as the Orediggers fell to Rocky Mountain College 45-39.

Nothing could stop the Montana Tech offense in the first quarter as the Diggers jumped out to a commanding 27-0 lead. Montana Tech's offense started fast after Matt Neylan forced a Rocky fumble and Will Davey returned it down to the Montana Tech one yard line. To finish off the drive Clay Cavender kept it along the left side and found pay dirt with 12:41 left in the first quarter.

On Montana Tech's next possession Dawson Reardon led a seven play 70 yard Digger drive.  Reardon connected with Kolby Kansala for a 30 yard touchdown pass over the middle to push it to a 14-0 Oredigger lead.

A pair of Pat Hansen touchdown runs would finish the scoring in the first quarter. Hansen rumbled in from one and nine yards out. The senior running back finished the day with 99 yards on 27 carries and is now 451 yards from Don Heater's career rushing record.

The Battlin' Bears scored for the first time in the second quarter when Bryce Baker barreled in for a one yard touchdown and made it a 27-7 contest.

Montana Tech added ten more points before the intermission after Matt Berg drilled a 27 yard field goal with 6:42 left in the half and Reardon found Braxton Lucero
in the back of the end zone as the first half wound down. The Diggers took a 36-7 lead into the break.

Rocky outscored the Diggers by 35 points in the second half.

Rocky's Andre McCullough caught three touchdowns for the Battlin' Bears including the two point conversion that forced overtime. However, it would be a McCullough run in the extra frame that won the game for Rocky.

Rocky Mountain College improves to 4-2 overall and 3-2 in conference as the Diggers drop to 1-5 overall and 1-5 in conference play.

The Diggers travel north to Havre next weekend to take on MSU-Northern. That game kicks off at 1pm.
