Box Score BUTTE, Mont. – Last second heroics from Cal Maritime helped the Keelhaulers rout the Orediggers 64-61.
Montana Tech overcame poor shooting and a 35-26 first half deficit, but the last second heroics erased the effort.
Paul Engstrom hit a short jumper to tie the score at 61 with just six ticks left on the clock. Cal Maritime called timeout at half court with 4.5 seconds left to play. After the inbounds pass, Dominique Barnes passed to Patrick Dungo in the corner for the game winning three pointer.
The Orediggers miss putting the winning streak together dropping to 4-3 overall.
Just three Diggers were in double figures on the night. Junior
Paul Engstrom led the way with 14 points, four rebounds and a block. Engstrom had the strongest
shooting performance for Tech hitting 5 of 6 from the field and 4 of 5 from the line.
Antonio Snow and
Adam Greger had 13 points each. Both seniors shot 50 percent from the field. Snow also had seven rebounds in the game.
The Keelhaulers had 37 points from their bench. Lionel Poole led the team from the bench with 12 points hitting 4 of 6 from beyond the arc.
Adam Smith led Cal with eight boards and chipped in seven points.
The Orediggers head out on the road next week. Black Hills State hosts Tech on Tuesday in Spearfish, South Dakota.
