GREAT FALLS, Mont. – For the first time since the 1998-99 season, the Montana Tech men's basketball are 2-0 in the Frontier Conference after a 75-66 victory against the University of Great Falls Argos Saturday night.
Tech (11-5, 2-0 Frontier) are now winners of seven in a row, were led by
Adam Greger who had game-high 18 points.
Antonio Snow pitched in with 16 points, five rebounds, seven assists and a steal.
Paul Engstrom and
Brandon Rydberg had 15 and 11 points respectively.
UGF (12-4, 1-1 Frontier) were paced by T.J. Harris who had 17 points.
Both squads got off to a slow start in the first half. Tech had an early 8-5 lead but that was short lived as UGF battled their way to take the 20-16 lead. Turnovers would plague both sides as total of 23 were committed in the first half. UGF was strong on the boards outrebounding Tech 30-10. The Argos had 20 offensive rebounds but the Digger defense limited them to just 10 second chance points. Despite the slow start, Tech took a 31-26 advantage heading into the half.
MT started off the second half on a 14-3 run. Seniors
Brandon Rydberg and
Antonio Snow paced the Diggers hitting back-to-back three pointers to give Tech the 45-29 advantage. The Argos pulled within six points but Tech's
Paul Engstrom would respond by completing a three-point play then following up with a mid-range jumper to give Tech the 61-48 lead with 7:15 remaining. UGF pulled as close as five points, but stellar play by the Diggers prevented an Argo comeback.
The first place Montana Tech Orediggers head to Missoula for a non-conference match-up against the Grizz on Tuesday. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
NOTES: Tech wins their first two conference games since the 1998-99 season…the Diggers have now won seven straight games
