Tech's Rally Comes up Short, Fall 69-64 to Westminster

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Diggers erased a 10-point halftime deficit but their rally would fall short as they fell 69-64 to Westminster College at Behnken Field House Thursday night.

Tech (13-7, 4-2 Frontier) was ice cold from the field shooting just 37.1 percent from the field going 23-for-62. The deep ball wouldn't fall for the Diggers either as Tech made four of their 19 three-point attempts.

Tech's slow start in the first half allowed the Griffins to jump to a commanding 22-5 first-half lead. The Diggers regained their composure and chipped away at WC's lead pulling within 10 points (37-27) at halftime thanks to Keegan McCarthy's tip-in as time expired.

Coach Patrick O'Herron's crew came out battling in the second half. Tech erased Westminster's lead to pull within two at 57-55 with 5:04 remaining in the contest. The Orediggers would hit a dry spell allowing the Griffins to increase their lead to six at 63-57. Tech kept on fighting as senior Reid Baerlocher hit a corner three with three seconds left to pull the Diggers closer at 67-64. However Westminster's Casey Evans hit two free throws to seal the victory.

Antonio Snow led four Diggers in double figures with 16 points. Brandon Rydberg added 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Forward Trent Thompson provided a spark off the bench with seven points and five boards.

Westminster, which improves to 9-10 overall; 2-4 Frontier, were led by Quincy Bair who had 13 points.

Tech concludes the road trip in Dillon when they take on the Bulldogs Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
