HAVRE, Mont. – The Montana Tech Lady Diggers dropped their conference opener, 78-37 against the No. 15 MSU-Northern Skylights Friday night at Armory Gymnasium.
Tech (8-8, 0-1 Frontier) were led by transfer
Kayla DeWit who had a team-high 15 points. The Columbia Falls native added seven rebounds and two assists. Forward
Kabri Emerson added six points and nine boards.
They Skylights (16-1, 1-0 Frontier) were led by reigning National NAIA Player of the Week A'jha Edwards who went 11-of-12 from the field for a game-high 27 points. Edwards added 16 points and two blocks.
The Skylights jumped to an early 20-5 lead behind 10 from Edwards. Tech's
Mandy Machinal ended the run with a three pointer from the wing. MSU-N continued their hot shooting with an 11-3 run mid-way through the first. The unkind rims continued to plague the Diggers as Tech shot 24.1 percent in the first half going into the locker room down 36-18.
DeWit had Tech's first eight points to start the half trimming Northern's lead to 41-26. However, the Skylights continued to pour it on shooting 58.1 percent from the field on their way to the 78-37 victory.
The Copper and Green continue their two-game road swing on Saturday when they take on the University of Great Falls at 5:30 p.m.
