BUTTE - Montana Tech flexed their offensive muscles in the Diggers 42-24 victory over Eastern Oregon.
The Diggers (7-1) amassed 622 yards of total offense with 416 of those yards coming on the ground.
It was through the air however, that Montana Tech scored their first two touchdowns and taking a 13-0 at the end of the first quarter. Quarterback
Andrew Loudenback threw a 54 yard touchdown to
Clay Cavender and connected with
Alec Bray from 30 yards out for a score.
In the second quarter, Loudenback hit
Clay Cavender on a 62 yard touchdown to extend the Digger lead to 22-7. Loudenback finished the game completing 5-of-8 passes for 148 yards and three touchdowns.
EOU booted a 35 yard field goal before the break making it a 22-10 ballgame.
The Mountaineers scored to start the third quarter on a 48 yard touchdown pass from Zach Bartlow to Calvin Connors shrinking Tech's lead to 22-17.
Then
Zach Bunney made a play.
The junior from Butte, America collected the EOU kickoff on the seven yard line and hit a seam. Bunney made a man miss and took the kickoff 93 yards to the endzone. The return touchdown, the first in Coach Morrell's tenure, pushed the Digger lead to 29-17.
EOU scored just once more in the game when Bartlow hit Brenden Kelly from the 35 yard line to cut into the Digger lead 29-24.
Oredigger-of-all-trades
Clay Cavender found the endzone for his third time of the day on a three yard keeper and
Hunter Gappmayer added a six yard rushing score to take the Digger lead to 42-24.
Cavender completed two passes for 58 yards, rushed 10 times for 66 yards and a touchdown. The speedster also caught two passes for 116 yards and two touchdowns.
Tech's running machine
Nolan Saraceni rushed for 205 yards on just 16 carries. This is the second week in a row that Saraceni gained over 200 yards rushing and the back has rushed for over 100 yards in every game this year.
DeAngelo Bell had 11 tackles to lead the Digger defense. Sophomore
Will Davey added six tackles and two picks in the winning effort. Davey's two picks give him four interceptions in the last three games.
The Orediggers hit the road to take on No. 1 Southern Oregon next Saturday in Ashland, OR. The game will kick at 1 P.M. MST. Â
