BUTTE, Mont. – The Montana men's basketball dropped the 75-62 decision against no. 20 University of Great Falls Thursday night at the HPER. The Diggers outrebound the Argos 31-29, assisted 11 of their 23 fields goals and shot 43.4 percent from the field but it was not enough.
The Diggers had a slow start in the beginning of the game and trailed 21-9 at the 11:09 mark.
Keegan McCarthy came off the bench and provided a spark for the Diggers. The junior came out hustling and rebounding. McCarthy grabbed an offensive rebound and hit a layup to pull Tech within seven (31-24) with 2:56 remaining. UGF rallied late and headed into the locker room up 41-24.
UGF continued to pour in the points in the second half. The Argos lead would go up by as many as 23 (57-34) midway into the second half. Tech chipped away at UGF's lead as they pulled within seven thanks to a two-point jumper by
Adam Greger. That was as close as Tech would get as UGF held on to the 75-62 win.
Tech (13-9, 4-4 Frontier) was led by Greger who had his third double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Junior
Paul Engstrom played well scoring 15 points and pulled down six boards.
UGF (17-5, 6-2 Frontier) was paced by Marcus Hurn who had a game-high 24 points.
Tech looks to rebound Saturday night when they host MSU-Northern at 7:30 p.m.
