La Mirada, Calif. – The volleyball team took down no. 13 Davenport in straight sets (25-21, 25-15, 25-23) Thursday afternoon in its first contest of the Biola Summer Slam Tournament.
Junior
Bailie Cortner had a monster match with a match-high 16 kills, zero errors on .727 hitting percentage. The middle blocker also had three blocks. Setter
Makenzie Bauck started the season on a high note with a match-high 36 assists, while freshman
Katie Wiley added four kills, one dig and a block in her colligate debut.

Angie Pancost made her first appearance at the libero/defensive specialist spot.
Tech started slow in the first set trailing early on. Wiley gave Tech its first lead (10-9) thanks to a feed from Bauck. The Diggers would then go on a 6-0 run thanks to great serving by
Jordan Danz to go up 17-12. The Orediggers never looked back and took the first set 25-21.
Tech made quick work of the Panthers in the second set winning 25-15. The Diggers last trailed 5-6 and used a 19-10 spurt to take the stanza.
In the highly competitive third frame, both teams went back-and-forth on the scoreboard. However, the great plays of Cortner (9 kills) and Bauck (19 assists) helped the Diggers hold on to the 25-23 victory.
The green and copper resume action tonight as they take on no. 8 Vanguard University at 9:00 p.m.
