HELENA, Mont. – The Oredigger volleyball team took the final three sets upsetting the No. 17 Carroll College Saints 3-2.
Montana Tech (16-7, 4-3) won their seventh straight match and get their second upset in the last two weeks against a Top 20 school. The victory was the first for the Orediggers in Helena since September 2007.
The Orediggers controlled much of the first set before a late rally gave the Saints the first frame 23-25. The second set went again to the Saints 18-25 as they racked up 17 kills.
But the Orediggers battled back winning the third and fourth 25-15, 25-21. Tech posted 27 kills to 15 from Carroll.
The Orediggers notched the final three points in the fifth set for a final 23-25, 18-25, 25-15, 25-21, 15-12.
Kills were even with each team getting 57 in the match. The Saints put up 35 attack errors while Tech had only 23.
Jordan Danz had 16 kills hitting .180 in the match. The senior outside hitter also had 17 digs.
Katie Wiley had 13 kills hitting .500.
Nicole Peacock had 10 kills and 13 digs.
Bailie Cortner posted 9 kills hitting .250.
Sabrina Hopcroft 19 digs.
Paige Montgomery led the Saints with 14 kills.
Montana Tech returns home Saturday when they host Lewis-Clark State.
