Box Score BUTTE—No. 7 Montana Tech used a balanced attack to outrun College of Idaho 42-21 and clinch a share of the Frontier Conference Championship on Bob Green Field Saturday afternoon.
The Orediggers started their Senior Day in style scoring the first touchdown of the game on a
Nolan Saraceni 36 yard run down the left sideline. Saraceni's hard running helped Montana Tech gain 253 yards on the ground and average 6.0 yards per carry.
Saraceni led Montana Tech with 156 rushing yards on just 24 totes.
Montana Tech's
Quinn McQueary had another dazzling day on Bob Green Field throwing for 294 yards and four scores and rushing for 83 yards on the ground. McQueary hooked up with
Dion Williams for a pair of touchdowns and also threw touchdowns to seniors
Mitchell Keeton and
Zach Bunney. McQueary completed 25 of his 32 attempts in the victory.
Keaton led the Diggers with nine receptions for 123 yards while
Dion Williams caught eight passes for 98 yards. Bunney caught six passes for 45 yards and
Chris Kelly caught two passes for 28 yards.
The Diggers led 35-21 in the fourth quarter before
Andy Butcher recovered a College of Idaho muffed punt in the endzone.
Montana Tech's defense was led by seniors
Eddie Smith,
Luke Benz,
Caleb Vance,
Andre Brown, and
Gunnar Kayser. Smith led the Diggers with nine tackles while Benz tallied eight and a tackle for loss. Brown and Kayser each had six tackles to go along with two pass breakups while
Caleb Vance ended the game with seven tackles and a tackle for loss.
The Diggers improve to 8-1 on the season and have now won their last 11 straight home games on Bob Green Field. Montana Tech travels to Ashland, Oregon next weekend to take on Southern Oregon. If the Diggers win that game they will hold the Frontier Conference title outright for the second year in a row.
