HELENA— The Orediggers had all the momentum midway through the fourth quarter but it wasn't enough as No. 22 Carroll College pulled the upset, 27-24.
Montana Tech took the first possession of the day and put three points on the board thanks to a Derrick Hold 27 yard field goal.
After a Carroll field goal to start the second quarter, the Diggers would take a 10-7 lead into the intermission on a short
Nolan Saraceni touchdown run.
Saraceni bruised the Carroll defense for 111 yards on the ground and two touchdowns on the day. The senior averaged 4.3 yards per carry against the stingy Saint run defense.
Dion Williams took a
Quinn McQueary pass over the middle to the endzone to open up the fourth quarter and give Montana Tech a touchdown lead, 17-10. Williams finished the contest with an impressive 86 yards on 4 catches including the 37 yard touchdown catch.
Nolan Saraceni pounded his way past the goal line from 3 yards out with 9:36 left in the fourth quarter to give Montana Tech a 24-10 lead.
A pair of late fourth quarter touchdowns by Carroll College tied the game up, 24-24, and stole the momentum with 2:12 left on the clock. A quick three-and-out by Montana Tech gave the Saints the ball back with a minute on the clock which set up the game winning 38 yard field goal.

Quinn McQueary was supremely efficient in his 2016 debut as he connected with eight different receivers on the day. The Digger signal-caller was a 24-for-37 for 270 yards and a touchdown through the air.
Mitchell Keaton caught a team-high five passes for 83 yards and
Sean Sullivan had four catches for three first downs and 22 yards on the day.
Defensively,
Andre Brown and
Rial Gunlikson tallied nine and six tackles respectively.
Brock Beede and
Eddie Smith each forced fumbles in the contest.
Gunnar Kayser had the lone Oredigger interception ending Carroll's opening offensive possession.
The Orediggers head back to Butte to take on MSU-Northern in the home opener at Bob Green Field next Saturday at 1 PM.
