DILLON, Mont. – The No. 14 Montana Tech Oredigger volleyball team escaped a five set match against rival Montana Western 21-25, 25-8, 25-19, 22-25, 15-4.
Tech (18-7, 8-1) holds the top spot in the Frontier standings while Western continues to look for their second conference victory.
The Bulldogs jumped on the Diggers in the first set before Tech won the second and third decisively. Tech again fell behind and could not catch Western in the fourth. The fifth set
was all Montana Tech to narrowly escape the road match.
The match went all five sets despite Tech dominating the attack 63-37. The Orediggers had 32 attack errors and hit just .177 as a team.
Sophomore
Gena McMillan led the Diggers with 14 kills.
Nicole Peacock had 13 while
Haley Druyvestein and
Angela Molesworth chipped in 10 each.
Sabrina Hopcorft had 31 digs in the match and McMillan had 16. The Diggers had their second highest dig mark of the season with 92.
Tessa Miller led the Bulldogs with nine kills.
Montana Tech's week continues tomorrow when they travel to Billings to face No. 21 Rocky Mountain.
