BUTTE— In their first home Frontier Conference Tournament game since 2013, the Orediggers defeated Carroll College 78-64.
Montana Tech lit it up from all over the floor shooting 66 percent for the game and 85 percent in the first half. The Diggers were 6-for-11 from three point land in the contest.
Starting out in a full-court press the Orediggers used the quick hands of Kaylynn and
Kourtney Coverdell to quickly jump to a double-digit lead. The Diggers led 27-13 after the first quarter and led 43-35 at the end of the first half.
Martha Dembek and
Hattie Thatcher combined to score 43 of Montana Tech's points on the night. Dembek was an impressive 8-for-9 from the floor and 4-for-4 from three point land on her way to a game-high 22 points. Thatcher shot 8-for-12 from the floor and made two deep three-pointers in the Digger victory. The Butte native also dished out a game-high seven assists and had four steals.
Carroll College was led in scoring by Hannah Dean who tallied 18 points.
Montana Tech improves to 16-14 overall and will travel to Lewis-Clark State to take on the Warriors Friday night.
