Diggers Stumble Against Saints

BUTTE- Montana Tech struggled to find a rhythm falling to Carroll College 35-14 on Bob Green Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Diggers jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead on a 33 yard pass from Jet Campbell to Will Hunthausen. The touchdown grab was the first of Hunthausen's career as the sophomore led the Diggers in receiving totaling 72 yards on six receptions.

Carroll College stole away the momentum however, scoring the next three touchdowns of the game to take a 19-7 advantage on the Diggers early in the third quarter. Montana Tech's lone response was a six yard touchdown reception by Dion Williams to bring the Diggers within five, 19-14.

Carroll College scored twice more through the air to put the game out of reach.

Jet Campbell threw for 224 yards and two touchdowns but was picked off three times by the Saints. Jed Fike carried the ball 17 times for 83 yards and caught three passes for 56 yards. Dion Williams and Trevor Hoffman each caught seven passes for 35 and 45 yards respectively.

Defensively the Diggers were led in tackles by Tucker Rauthe and Jacob Clarke who each had nine. Brock Beede added seven tackles and one tackle for loss.

The Diggers fall to 4-5 overall and travel to Billings to take on Rocky Mountain College next Saturday at 12 p.m.
