Digger Volleyball Goes 1-2 at Spokane Tournament
SPOKANE, Wash. - The Montana Tech Oredigger Volleyball opened up the 2018 season going 1-2 at the Spokane Tournament.
The Diggers started the tournament by dropping a pair of five set matches to No. 15 Eastern Oregon University (25-23, 25-23, 19-25, 16-25, 12-15) and No. 19 Corban University (25-13, 25-23, 22-25, 17-25, 15-12) before defeating Multnomah University in straight sets (25-13, 25-17, 25-21) on Saturday.

Leading Montana Tech offensively in the five set loss to No. 15 Eastern Oregon were
Karina Mickelson and
Masha Korol who tallied 17 and 16 kills respectively.
Kacee James and
Heather Thompson also posted double-digit kills in the match, Thompson led the front line with a .320 attack percentage.
Hannah Liss and
Kamaile Moody combined for 50 assists while
Sabrina Hopcroft notched 21 digs in the opening match.
The Diggers hit for .227 as a team but committed 14 service errors. Montana Tech registered seven team blocks on the match.

Montana Tech v. Corban (25-13, 25-23, 22-25, 17-25, 15-12)
The trio of
Heather Thompson,
Karina Mickelson, and
Masha Korol led the Orediggers at the net combining for 38 of the teams 50 kills. Thompson tallied 14 kills on 17 attacks hitting for a .765 percentage while Mickelson notched 13 kills and Korol added 10.
In the five set thriller, the Diggers overcame a slow start to notch the match up at two sets apiece before Corban won the rubber match 15-12.
Sabrina Hopcroft led the Diggers with 11 digs while
Courtney Bad Bear and
Kamaile Moody tallied 20 assists apiece. Montana Tech dished up 45 assists and tallied 13 team blocks in the match.

Montana Tech v. Multnomah (25-13, 25-17, 25-21)
In the final match of the Spokane Tournament, Montana Tech took charge early and never looked back notching a straight sets victory over Multnomah. The Diggers hit for a .297 percent clip at the net and were balanced offensively with
Masha Korol and
Kacee James leading the way with 7 kills each.
Courtney Bad Bear led the Diggers with 15 assists. The Diggers registered a tournament best 14 blocks and forced Multnomah to hit just -.037 at the net.
