Box Score BUTTE, Mont. – Evergreen State rallied from two sets down, but the No. 14 Orediggers held out in the fifth frame for the victory 25-13, 27-25, 17-25, 21-25, 15-12.
Montana Tech (2-2) starts the third annual Big Sky Volleyball Challenge out the right way with the win.
The Orediggers had stellar hitting in the first two sets combining for 36 total kills and hitting percentages of .536 and .282. Tech hit just .056 in the third as Evergreen started to rally. The Orediggers finished the match hitting .255.
After dropping sets three and four to the Geoducks, the Orediggers surged in the fifth frame. Tech 11 kills while hitting .304 to finish the match.
The Orediggers led Evergreen in kills 69-56.
Sophomore
Karina Mickelson led the attack for Tech with 19 kills and hitting .238 in the match. She added 16 digs to her match totals.
Senior
Masha Korol had 17 kills for the Diggers while hitting .297. Korol also had 14 digs.
Heather Thompson and transfer
Kacee James were also in double-figures for the Orediggers with 14 and 12 kills. Thompson had a match-high eight blocks.
Sabrina Hopcroft led the defense with 24 digs.
Montana Tech plays their second match of the tournament tonight at 6 p.m.
