BUTTE, Mont. – The Orediggers did it again, knocking off another nationally ranked opponent in No. 23 ranked University of Providence 77-74 on Kelvin Sampson Court Thursday night.
The Diggers, who trailed 41-32 at the half after shooting just 32.3 percent from the floor and surrendering a buzzer-beating three to Austin Starr, rallied back in the second half. The Diggers shot an impressive 53 percent in the second stanza and utilized a 17-5 lead capped off by a
Nick Fitts three to take the lead 49-46.
Montana Tech used a balanced attack led by
Troy Owens Jr. who scored 22 points and
Taylor England who tallied 16 to defeat the Argos.
Nick Fitts,
Derrius Collins, and
Dylan Pannabecker each scored in double-figures as well tallying 13, 11, and 10 respectively.
Austin Starr and Jaxen Hashley led the way for Providence scoring 20 and 17.
Montana Tech improves to 3-2 in Frontier Conference play and 13-4 overall with the victory while the Argos fall to 3-3.
Montana Tech hits the road this weekend. The Orediggers travel to Havre to face Montana State Northern Saturday.
