BUTTE, Mont. – The Montana Tech women's basketball team earned their first Frontier Conference victory of the season upsetting No. 13 University of Providence 74-63.
The Orediggers (11-5, 1-4) handed the Argos (12-5, 1-4) their fourth conference loss of the season.
After trailing most of the first quarter, the Oreidggers scored the final six points of the frame to lead 16-13 at the first break. Montana Tech held the lead the rest of the night.
The Argos pulled within three in the fourth quarter, but that was as close as they would get to the Orediggers. Montana Tech led by as many as 18 in the second half.
Montana Tech shot the lights out shooting 56.5 percent from the field in the first half and 53.2 percent on the night. The Orediggers shot 6 of 13 from beyond the arc in the game.
Mesa Williams led the charge with 20 points on 5 of 9 shooting. The sophomore guard hit 4 of 6 from deep and didn't miss a free throw on the night going 6 for 6. Williams added 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals to her stellar game.
Kaylee Zard had 15 points and 8 rebounds.
Mollie Peoples shot 5 for 10 and hit 2 of 6 from three point range finishing with 15 points.
Sophomore forward
Tjaden Pallister started her first game as an Oredigger. The Helena native finished with 14 points going 7 for 11 from the field. Pallister also had 3 rebounds.
Emilee Maldonado led the Argos with 22 points and Tristan Murphy added 20 points and 9 rebounds.
Providence shot 34.9 percent on the night and hit just 2 of their 20 three point attempts.
Montana Tech hits the road this weekend. The Orediggers travel to Havre to face Montana State Northern Saturday.
