CALDWELL, Idaho – In the final seconds, No. 8 College of Idaho kicker Kyle Mitchell hit a 58-yard field with the wind to overtake No. 19 Montana Tech 16-14.
The Orediggers (4-2) drove the ball 75-yards in the final five minutes of the game scoring on a
Jet Campbell 3-yard run to take a 14-13 lead with just 21 seconds left to go in the game.
The Yotes (6-0) took the ball 34 yards in four plays to set up Mitchell's game winning kick.
Montana Tech continually held off College of Idaho, including three stops in the red zone. The Yotes turned the ball over on downs twice and fumbled a snap.
The Orediggers scored first after
Carter Myers intercepted Darius Peterson at midfield in the second quarter. Tech drove the ball 52 yards finishing with a 4-yard touchdown run from
Blake Counts.
The Yotes responded with a field goal on the next possession capping off a 63-yard drive.
After a Tech punt towards the end of the first half, C of I drove the ball 47 yards Peterson hit Connor Richardson in the end zone for a 12-yard touchdown. The Yotes took a 10-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The only scoring in the second half came in the final minutes. Mitchell kicked the second of his three field goals on the day in the fourth quarter with 5:06 left to play to extend the Yotes lead to 13-7.
Counts finished with 91 yards rushing on 19 carries.
Campbell had 98 yards passing completing 11 of 24 and an interception. The sophomore rushed for 48 yards.
Myers had another great outing with 12 total tackles, a sack and an interception.
Paul Sundquist had 9 tackles and a tackle for loss.
Jake Orvis broke up a pair of passes and finished with 6 tackles.
Kiley Cprara led the Tech receiving core with 4 catches for 61 yards.
Trevor Hoffman and 4 receptions for 30 yards.
Peterson finished with 203 yards passing on 16-of-30. Nick Calzaretta had 27 carries for 11o yards.
Forrest Rivers led the Yotes defense with 12 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.
Montana Tech returns home next weekend when they host Eastern Oregon.
