BUTTE, Mont. – The Montana Tech Orediggers held the Southern Oregon Raiders back in their attempt at a rally in second half for a 17-14 victory.
Quarterback
Jet Campbell scored both touchdowns for the Orediggers in the first half helping take a 17-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Campbell scored on a fake reverse that turned into a 10-yard run into the end zone on their first drive. The Orediggers scored on their opening possession for the second straight game. The scoring run capped a 79-yard drive for the Orediggers.
Southern Oregon answered back on the next drive when Wyatt Hutchinson completed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Addison Whitham.
The Orediggers used some trickery on the Orediggers next score using a
Kiley Caprara reverse and pass Campbell for seven yards in the second quarter. This brought the score to 17-7.
Campbell finished with 246 passing yards completing 19 of 31.
Tyler Padilla hit a 21-yard field goal in the beginning of the second quarter.
Hutchinson had the lone score in the second half completing a five-yard pass to Jordan Suell in the third quarter. The touchdown put the Raiders down 17-14, but that would be the final score of the game.
The Oredigger defense played tough down the stretch keeping the Raider offense in check. Tech finished with four sack and six total tackles for loss. The secondary broke up a number of passes in the final drives.
Jacob Clarke finished with 7 tackles and 1.5 sacks. The senior linebacker had 2.5 total tackles for loss and 4 solo tackles.
Carter Myers had 5 solo stops and 6 total tackles including a sack.
Logan Kolodejchuk had 3 tackles and a sack. The sophomore also broke up one pass.
Junior defensive back
Matthew Drake had tight coverage against the Raiders braking up two passes. Sophomore
Jake Orvis broke up a pair of passes as well and has 6 in the past two games.
Defensive lineman
Jesse Sims broke up a critical pass at the line on the final Raider drive. The redshirt sophomore finished with two tackles.
Trevor Hoffman finished with 7 catches for 131 yards. Caprara also had 7 catches and 75 yards receiving in addition to his touchdown pass.
Tyler Folkes had a game-high 17 carries for 61 yards.
Blake Counts had 16 carries for 46 yards.
Jed Fike left the game in the first quarter but had 8 carries and 41 yards.
Montana Tech (2-1) returns to the road next weekend. The Orediggers travel to Havre, Montana to take on the Montana State-Northern Lights.
