Helena, Mont.- The Montana Tech men's and women's golf teams both finished in third place at the Carroll College Fighting Saints Invitational at Green Meadow Country Club on Tuesday.
The Montana Tech women's team held off a furious charge by host Carroll College to finish in third place for the event. The Orediggers, who tallied a final round 337 to finish with a two round total of 679, were led in scoring by freshman
Skyler Martin. Martin finished 7th in the event after shooting 77-84 over the two rounds.
Emily Garden finished T-12th shooting 81-86 while
Kelsey Parker finished T-15th after rounds of 82-86. Junior
Tanna Campbell improved 10 strokes to fire an 80 in the second round.
Lynzee Dexter and
Reyla Williams tied for 24th place after shooting 181 totals and
Emily Kelly shot a 189 two-round total.Â
"I thought our team did a nice job of rebounding from a tough first day," said coach
Sean Ryan. "
Skyler Martin's seventh place finish is really exciting. She and the rest of this team have a great deal of potential we're just now tapping in to. Holding off Carroll College at their home course is a big step for us."
On the men's side, the Diggers overtook Carroll College for third place shooting a final round 300 for a 918 total. The Orediggers were led by senior
Trey Hoagland's 5th place finish. Hoagland, whose three round scores were 76-72-72, made five birdies in his round. Junior
Sean Ramsbacher fired a 2-under-par 69 to finish 11th overall. Freshmen
Matt Hobbs and
Brady Cady finished 21st and T-23rd for the Oredigger team score with 237 and 240 total scores.
Isaiah Weldon also finished T-23rd playing as an individual while
Bridger Martin shot a three round 243.
Blake Hasquet and
Ryan Keenan finished 31st and 32nd respectively.Â
"This will be a great learning experience for our men's team," said Ryan. "Not everything goes your way in this crazy game and we bounced back well from a tough first day. Trey's Top-5 finish and Sean's last round gives us some confidence heading to Lewiston next week."
The Orediggers travel to Lewiston, Idaho next Sunday through Tuesday to compete in the Lewis-Clark State Warrior Invitational at the Lewiston Country Club.Â
