BUTTE, Mont. – The Montana Tech women's basketball team held off the No. 25 University of Providence in the final seconds winning 65-61.
The Orediggers led 31-24 at the break, but the Argos slowly chipped away at the lead in the second half.
Parker Esary hit a field goal with 1:46 left to play to tie the game at 61.
Mesa Williams hit 3 out of 4 free throw attempts and
Tavia Rooney added one more to hold off the late Argos rally.
Williams finished with 22 points shooting 7 of 11 from the field and 7 for 9 from the charity stripe. The senior added 6 rebounds and 3 steals to a stellar night.
The Orediggers finished shooting 42.1 percent from the field and 83.3 percent from the free throw line.
Dani Urick finished with 11 points and 3 steals.
Brooke Heggie had 10 points and 6 rebounds.
Rooney had 7 points and 7 rebounds.
Emilee Maldonado led the Argos with 22 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals.
Parker Esary had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Montana Tech (2-4, Frontier 2-4) snapped their four-game losing streak and handed Providence (1-1, Frontier 1-1) their first loss of the season.
The Orediggers host (RV) Rocky Mountain College this Saturday and Sunday.
