BUTTE, Mont. – No. 13 Rocky Mountain was handed their second loss of the season and second at the hands of Montana Tech as the Orediggers held of the Battlin' Bears 21-17.
First-year head coach
Kyle Samson got his first home victory of his career and led the Orediggers to a second straight victory.
The Orediggers got out to a fast start again leading 21-3 at halftime. Quarterback
Jet Campbell ran in a pair of touchdowns and
Mark Estes fought his way into the endzone on a reverse.
Tech finished the game with 446 yards of offense. Campbell had a season high 316 yards passing and 32 yards rushing.
Rocky scored twice in the third quarter. Both touchdowns came on runs with one from running back Victor Ngalamulume and one from quarterback Nathan Dick.
The Oredigger defense stopped the Bears on two fourth down tries late in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. The defense was stout holding the high-powered Rocky offense to 327 yards in the game, well below their average.
Tech had three takeaways in the first half with two fumbles and an interception.
Dick was held to 182 yards passing and rushed for 78 yards.
Jordan Washington led the Digger attack with 8 tackles, a tackle for a loss, and an interception.
Logan Kolodejchuk had seven tackles and a sack. Kolodejchuk also knocked down the pass that sealed the victory.
Naoki Harmer had seven tackles and
Jake Orvis finished with 6.
Logan Kennedy had season highs with six receptions and 105 yards receiving.
Trevor Hoffman caught four balls for 81 yards.
Kyle Torgerson caught four passes for 78 yards.
Blake Counts rushed 16 times for 58 yards.
Montana Tech is on the road next week and looking for revenge when they travel to Montana Western.
