Yotes Disappoint Orediggers

Box Score BUTTE, Mont. – College of Idaho dashed the hopes of an upset for Montana Tech Saturday afternoon on a big play late in the fourth quarter taking the victory 28-23.

With just two minutes left in the game, College of Idaho defensive lineman Keagen McCoy snatched a fumble in the Montana Tech back field and ran it back for a touchdown to pull ahead of the Orediggers.

The Orediggers struck got on the board first finishing their opening dive with a Jet Campbell pass to mark Estes for an 8-yard touchdown taking an early 7-0 lead.

The Yotes answered back on their next drive capping off a 75-yard drive with a Nick Calzaretta 4-yard touchdown run.

The Orediggers took the lead again in the second quarter with Campbell completing his second touchdown pass of the game on a 17-yard strike to Logan Kennedy. Jared Griffith missed the point after making the score 13-7.

Tech held the Yotes scoreless the rest of the half. Naoki Harmer picked off Yotes quarterback Ryan Hibbs with seconds to go in the half on their own 25-yard line returning it for a score. The Orediggers took a 20-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Yotes began to inch their way back into the game when Hibbs completed a 34-yard touchdown to Isaiah Veal with 5:52 to go in the third quarter. Tech still lead 20-14.

Griffith made a 28-yard field goal at the beginning of the fourth quarter putting Tech ahead 23-14.

The Yotes pulled close once again with Hibbs completed a 6-yard touchdown pass to Calzaretta to trail 23-21.

After gaining a first down on the next drive, the Tech fumble sealed the fate of the game.

Campbell finished 14-of-28 for 165 yards and 2 scores.

Trevor Hoffman caught 6 passes for 85 yards.

Kennedy caught 3 passes for 38 yards and a touchdown.

Blake Counts finished with 64 yards rushing on 19 tries.

Hibbs finished 18-of-36 with 221 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Yotes. Hibbs also threw a pair of interceptions.

Calzaretta was held to just 64 yards on the ground. He also caught 2 passes for 25 yards and 2 total touchdowns on the day.

Blake Allred and Cole Wyant led the defense with 9 tackles each. Teddy Croft finished with 8.

Keyshawn James-Newby had a sack and 4 tackles.

Harmer, who caught the pick-six, had 2 more pass break ups and finished with 6 tackles.

Jordan Washing had the second interception.

Dylan Martinez led the Yotes defense with 11 tackles and had a sack.

Montana Tech (2-4) is off next week. The Orediggers return to action on the road when they travel to Ashland, Oregon to take on Southern Oregon.
