BUTTE, Mont.- In what had to be one of the most thrilling matches of the year, Montana Tech clinched their trip to the NAIA Volleyball National Tournament's final site in Sioux City, Iowa with a five set win over Bushnell.
The No. 15 Orediggers (22-9) defeated the Beacons (26-28, 25-19, 25-27, 28-26, 16-14) to win the back-and-forth match on Saturday evening.
The Diggers were led on offense by
Olivia Muir's 18 kills, while
Maureen Jessop and
Karina Mickelson each added 14 kills. The Orediggers outhit the Beacons .241 to .130 but committed 18 service errors.
Sydney Parks added 12 kills and
Taylor Henley had 10 kills as well for the Diggers.
Bushnell, who tallied an astonishing 87 digs in the postseason match, was led on offense by Shay Coons and Camille Guerrero who had 14 kills apiece. Payton Jones and Halle Neuman each had 10 kills.
Makenna Northern had 54 assists for the Beacons while Callie Wilkins had 29 digs.
McKenna Kaelber had 59 assists for the Diggers and
Sarah Hopcroft had 22 digs.
